Hi, friends! I wanted to share a super simple art project that the girls did today! We are at the very end of February, and St. Patty’s day is the next holiday here! I am all about magic, rainbows, and Lucky Charms when it comes to St. Pattys! I thought it would be a fun idea for the girls to create their own rainbow art to hang in our playroom!
This is a super simple project, and you likely already have everything you need right at home:
- Crayons
- Watercolor Paints – You can find our FAVORITE brand HERE.
- Water jar
- Paper – The thicker paper roll we use is HERE.
- Draw your rainbow (remember: ROY G BIV from elementary school) lines out using crayons.
- Watercolor in the spaces in-between the lines. The coolest part about this art is that the watercolor won’t absorb into the paper that is covered in crayon—this allows the rainbow lines to really pop out for a fun effect!
- Allow to dry, and proudly display your masterpieces.
I used this craft time as an opportunity to chat with the girls about the symbolism behind rainbows. I told them that rainbows are a reminder of God’s promise to us, and how blessed we are by that promise.
The rainbow that I have put in the sky will be my sign to you and to every living creature on earth. It will remind you that I will keep this promise forever. When I send clouds over the earth, and a rainbow appears in the sky, I will remember my promise to you and to all other living creatures. Never again will I let floodwaters destroy all life. -Genesis 9:12-15
I hope this inspires you to create your own watercolors as a reminder of His promise to us! They are the perfect piece of artwork to hang around during March, and all of the magic it brings!
I love to see your memory making. Don’t forget to share with me on Instagram and Facebook!
