Friends, I literally could not be more excited to share the details behind this dream room makeover with you. Pottery Barn Kids is one of my longest partnerships, and to have my work, home, and beautiful girls featured on their site, is such a fun opportunity.
The last time we made any significant changes to Raegan and Zarie’s bedroom was back in 2020, when we first moved them into the same room at ages 4 and 2. Seeing how tiny they were in that original room blog post literally blows my mind. My mom often says, “Babies don’t keep,” and man, is she right.
We are an active-duty military family, and we’ve moved two times since they started sharing a room. They asked to un-bunk their beds when we moved into our current home. Their furniture had gotten pretty beat up after being disassembled, moved and assembled again so many times. I was excited at the opportunity to refresh their space and get them something a little more regal and grown up. Raegan and Zarie aren’t toddlers anymore, but they still love Disney princesses, make-believe, and fairytales—so I wanted their room to still have that sort of sweet whimsy while also being a little more grown up and regal; a truly magical space that they can grow into over the years.
Raegan and Zarie are the girliest of girls. Crowns and princesses and feminine details are what they live for. We are a big Disney-loving family, and we visit the parks often. As a matter of fact, we were hosted at Walt Disney World for their World Princess Week, and our girls still talk about it constantly. They each have their favorite Princesses and are giddy whenever they meet them. Now, they get to enjoy them in their bedrooms, as well as in our family memories.
Let’s start with the accent wallpaper. We are big fans of this modern peel-and-stick wallpaper. The panels, while tedious, are really simple to install and add so much light and texture to the girls’ space. The neutral flower design is so chic and pretty. Just make sure, unlike us, that you measure the wall correctly and order enough panels to cover the entire wall. We had to order additional panels, and our timeline stalled a bit. Shoutout to my sister for coming up to help in a big way.
The furniture itself is so beyond elegant. The beds are the dreamiest. The “seadrift” colored wood, carved detailing, and upholstered panels make for such a regal feel throughout the entire room. The girls each upgraded their dressers and got personal nightstands, which they love because there’s plenty of book storage. The GREENGUARD Gold Certified furniture also ensures cleaner indoor air where the girls sleep and play.
When I saw the new Disney Princesses x Pottery Barn Kids bedding collab I immediately knew that it was absolute perfect fit for Raegan and Zarie. PBK was able to seamlessly combine our girls’ fav characters with elegance and style. The bedding was the inspiring starting point that really sparked the rest of the design. The stitched details are truly stunning, and easily compliment their beds and decor. The crown cornices are the icing on top. The girls love to pull their shears and snuggle up for some reading in bed.
I also went with a statement accent rug. I wanted something that would be just as cozy as it was pretty, and this floral rug fits the bill. We have the 8 x 10 and it works perfectly for Raegan and Zarie’s space. Again, it adds texture along with really pretty muted garden coloring.I love how it pulls in the floral wallpaper and bedding.
Window treatments were another small put big-impact update that we made. The cream scalloped curtains were already in the girls’ room, so we just paired those with the most beautiful gold-stitched starry shears, and a gold curtain rod. It looks absolutely magical in there when the light is shinning through. We also *finally* replaced the builder-grade main light with a lovely gold and floral flush mount.
Touches like their carved wood mirror and princess castle cuckoo clock are very much giving “Who’s the fairest of them all?” and I love that for my girls. It’s all in the details. I put up a cork board for the girls to add their drawings, photos, and various sentimental items to. The portrait of Moana is a personal forever favorite of mine. The kids also have hand-stitched big sister (brother for Xander) crowns from Madly Wish that they have pinned to their board.
Can we talk about how charming these brass hooks are? The way they resemble perfectly tied bows of ribbon adds such a touch of whimsy to the room decor. I decided to use these hooks as a decorative storage solution for Raegan and Zarie’s princess costume dresses and Disney purses. Below the dresses we have an adorable little collection of princess shoes to go with each outfit. I love keeping their treasures easily accessible for dressing up and imaginative play.
For storage I chose sleek display shelves with a polished gold retaining bar. When the girls feel like snuggling up with their dolls and a good princess book, they can grab them and get cozy. We’ve built a collection of stories, cookbooks, princess journals, and seasonal titles that we rotate through our #OccasionsBookNook during the year. You can find details on where to get our favs from the princess book list here.
