I am so excited to finally reveal the girls’ new shared room! This sweet little room has been a labor of love, and a welcomed project during our weeks of quarantine. I wasn’t sure how the girls would transition into a shared room. They have both been sleeping in their own beds/room since they were babies, and I think my biggest worry was simply that they would never fall asleep haha. I was right…well kinda. The first few nights they literally played and giggled for hours before actually calling it a night.
Mark and I have really gotten back into a good bedtime routine with them, and each night has gotten more and more uniform. The girls fall asleep pretty soon after they’re put down…usually haha. It seems like some nights there are just too many sister secrets to be told. I’m okay with that.
It is of utmost importance to me that our home is our safe haven. I want it to be cozy and welcoming for us. I always try to make sure that we all have the space to let loose, and relax. When it came to styling Raegan and Zarie’s new shared room, I wanted it to be airy and sweet. I wanted it to be overly feminine, without being overly pink. My goal was to basically make it feel like they were sleeping right in the middle of a cloud; dreaming amongst the stars in the sky. Creamy whites, hints of gold sparkle, and sunset pastels.
We created an accent wall behind the bunk beds using the peel-and-stick Chasing Paper wallpaper in Starbright. If you’re following along with the fun on my Insta stories, then you may have seen the time-lapse of my husband and I putting the wallpaper panels up. I was surprised by how little of a hassle this was. Wallpapering has come a long way, folks. The starry-detailed cream paper added the perfect level of brightness to the space.
I knew from the start that we would be getting bunk beds for the girls. Raegan has had her heart set on bunk beds for the longest time. I love that they’re a practical use of space, especially since we are an active duty military family. This will give us more flexibility in the event that we move to a home with less bedroom space. Another plus, is that our Ava Regency Twin-over-Twin bunk bed can be easily converted into two seperate beds, in the future.
Another huge reason we went with the Ava Regency furniture collection, is because it is GREENGUARD gold certified. The furniture is rigorously tested for chemical emissions. I am all about less toxins, and cleaner air in our home. Also, if you’re looking for quality bunk mattresses, ours from Beautyrest are phenomenal.
The white ruffle window shams and curtain rod were reused from Zarie’s nursery. We used spray paint to repaint the silver curtain rod to match the other gold accents from the wallpaper, shelves, and drawer pulls.
An instant way to add another layer of whimsy to any space: an accent rug. We also went with the Lila Floral Antique Rug in from of the beds. It has the prettiest floral vines and pastel hues in it. It’s also the perfect softness for sisters to cuddle up with a bedtime story.
As an extra level of excitement, we ended up getting a matching bunk bed, and bedding, for the girls’ dolls. It is so sweet to watch them tuck their dolls in at night. Their sweet little baby dolls are from HarperIman.com.
I am so in love with our handcrafted felt “Day Dreamers” garland. It was a custom order from The Daily Yay –one of my favorite small shops. The owner, Kara, has done a ton of custom projects for me in the past, including the cake topper and party hat from Zarie’s Under the Sea birthday party.
I really wanted to bring in some pretty pastel colors when it came to their bedding. Their organic rainbow showers sheet sets were the PERFECT addition. Not only does the organic cotton make the sheets super soft, they’re also totally hypoallergenic for my girls’ sensitive skin. The colors harmonize beautifully with their rainbow pom duvet covers. Their smiling sun accent pillows are the sweetest.
Remember those old school glow-in-the-dark star stickers that we all used to have on our ceilings? Well, I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking for some to add to the new room. I found a really great value pack, that creates a whole solar system, and magical unicorn scene on their nighttime ceiling. I thought this would be a fun new thing for our little stargazers to enjoy. We got them a beautiful ceramic cloud night light as well.
I also decided to dedicate a space to housing some of the girls’ favorite bedtime stories. Mark installed two 3′ gold polished shelves and Raegan and I pulled some of their favorites from the playroom to add to them. We decided to go with some extra girly choices, since this room would be no boys/baby brothers allowed.
Under the shelves, we installed a little wood peg hook for all of Raegan and Zarie’s fun little accessories. It is perfectly in reach, and keeps all of these easy-to-lose items organized. We replaced Raegan’s old nursery hamper (that was quite literally hanging on by a thread) with this gorgeous hand woven silver rope hamper. I know this piece will be long lasting, and the sparkle ropes tie in perfectly with our theme, and the wallpaper behind it.
The coordinating cloud storage basket reminded me of their cloud watercolor bed sheets, and I couldn’t not get it haha. The girls keep all of their little Cuddle and Kind stuffies, and Daddy Doll in there.
We also installed the gold polished shelves above each of their drawer chests. The extra storage is a favorite of mine, and a way to display some of their heirloom dolls, and special keepsakes. The beautiful gold hoop drawer pulls add the prettiest pop of glam to the space. I know both girls will love them well into their teens. I am looking forward to styling the shelves and drawer chest tops with the changing seasons, and holidays.
Thank you so much for coming to have a look at Raegan and Zarie’s new shared room! I am so excited to continue adding in details, and showing you how the space transforms as the months pass. I am looking forward to these two sweet girls making memories together in their room. I shared a room with my middle sister, and I remember how comforting that always was.
