Watercolor Easter Egg Hunt

Hi, friends! I know that social distancing has changed a lot about how we are celebrating holidays this Spring. We typically attend several Easter egg hunts during the season, and now we are having to get creative at home. My girls created their own watercolor paper Easter eggs, and taped them up on the window in front of our house. Some of our neighbors are doing the same, and our hope is that the kiddos will be able to spot colorful eggs during family walks around the neighborhood. I wanted to share this festive and easy craft with you!

All you need is:

Watercolor paints (our favorite set is HERE), scissors, water, tape, and coffee filters. (Note: I have also seen this done with washable markers that you spray with a water bottle for a fun colorful effect.)

What to do:

All you need to do is out coffee filters, and trace/draw the shape of an egg on one to use as a stencil. Stack the remainder of the filters, and use the egg shaped cutout to cut them all. These filters are so thin, that it takes no time!

Pull out the watercolors/water, and let the kids paint and drip to their hearts content. Just like with real dyed eggs, there are no rules here!

You can find our flower petal paint tray HERE. The girls used the petal shaped wells a lot as little mixing bins–they then dripped the watery color onto their filters.

You’ll need to leave the eggs flat for about an hour to dry out.

Use regular scotch tape to hang them up in a fun visible window! It is SO pretty to see how the light shines through the filters.

Happy hunting, friends!

Praying for you, always!
