One of my favorite traditions is surprising our teachers with a thoughtful gift on the first day, and this DIY Back-to-School Teacher Bouquet is one of the sweetest (and easiest!) gifts we’ve made.
It starts with an inexpensive bouquet of grocery store flowers and a few creative details that transform it into a gift that feels completely personalized.
What You’ll Need
To recreate this bouquet, you’ll need:
- A fresh bouquet of flowers
- Wet paper towels
- Plastic storage bag
- Packing tape
- Printable “Teacher Times” newspaper wrap
- Wooden craft picks
- Occasions by Shakira x My Mind’s Eye Confetti
- Hot glue gun
- Gift cards (optional)
- Ruler ribbon
- Scissors
Step 1: Keep the Flowers Fresh
Before wrapping your bouquet, dampen a paper towel and wrap it around the flower stems. Cover the paper towel with a small plastic bag and secure it with tape.
This simple trick helps keep the flowers hydrated while they’re waiting to be gifted, especially if you’re assembling everything the night before or transporting them to school.
Step 2: Wrap the Bouquet
The star of this project is the personalized Teacher Times newspaper wrap.
Customize the printable with details like:
- Your teacher’s name
- Your child’s name and photo
- Grade level
- School year
- Personalized headlines
Print it on 17 x 11-inch ledger paper for a large bouquet (I had mine printed on blueprint paper at staples, but standard printer paper would work for a smaller arrangement), then carefully wrap it around the flowers and secure it with packing tape.
It instantly transforms a simple bouquet into something that looks custom-made.
Step 3: Add Fun School-Themed Details
This is where the bouquet really comes to life.
I attached school-themed table confetti to wooden picks using hot glue and tucked them throughout the flowers. Our Occasions by Shakira x My Mind’s Eye confetti has shapes like glue bottles, scissors, pencils, rulers, and erasers. Little details that celebrate the things teachers use every day.
You can also tuck in a few gift cards using the same method. Coffee shops, bookstores, office supply stores, or a favorite local restaurant all make thoughtful additions.
Step 4: Finish with Ruler Ribbon
Tie everything together with ruler ribbon for the perfect finishing touch.
It adds another fun school element while making the bouquet feel polished and gift-ready.
