Hey! It’s Mark! There’s nothing quite like snuggling up with your loved one on a spooky night, ready to embark on a thrilling cinematic adventure. “Boo with Your Boo” is the perfect occasion to share some chills, spills, and thrills with your significant other. Grab some popcorn, turn down the lights, and get ready for a hauntingly romantic movie night.
We’ve curated a list of 8 great movies to watch with your Boo this month ranging from classics, to slashers, to spiritual anomalies. Get your charcuterie boards and drinks and prepare for some fantastic movies that’ll be sure to get you through spooky season.
1. Lost Boys (1987):
A classic vampire flick with a dose of ’80s nostalgia. Filled with actors you know, and the awesome Santa Cruz boardwalk (one of our fav family destinations when living in Cali), this film is perfect for setting the spooky mood the rest of the list!
2. Halloween (1978):
John Carpenter’s iconic slasher film introduced the world to Michael Myers, the silent and relentless killer. It’s a quintessential choice for a night of suspense and scares. Michael Moyer’s is my absolute favorite slasher, whether it’s the original, the Rob Zombie, or the latest 3- movie installment Halloween is a staple… it’s in the name!
3. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021):
The third installment in “The Conjuring” series, this movie follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they confront a sinister supernatural force. Admittedly we haven’t seen it yet but the first two movies were so good and packed full of scares that’ll make you want to keep the lights on.
4. Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994):
In this unique horror film, the boundaries between fiction and reality blur as Freddy Krueger’s evil invades the real world, posing a terrifying threat to the creators of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise.
5. Scream 6 (2022):
The newest installment in the iconic “Scream” franchise returns with a fresh set of scares and a new generation of characters facing a masked killer. The two new Sceam movies were both good, this last one was great. Jenna Ortega comes back as Tara Carpenter (shout out to John Carpenter) and Ghost Face is on a tear. There’s one specific scene where the main characters follow the classic slasher rules, going to a public space… let’s just say this new Ghost Face doesn’t follow all of the rules!
6. The Shining (1980):
Stanley Kubrick’s psychological thriller set in an isolated hotel is sure to give you both the creeps. Jack Nicholson’s performance is unforgettable and makes it a classic in the horror genre. REDRUM! REDRUM! The Shining is on this year’s list not only because it’s a great movie but because it transitions us to similar horror movies that invoke conversation and thought. Watch this one earlier in the evening to allow for some late night pillow talk!
7. Get Out (2017):
Jordan Peele’s thought-provoking and suspenseful horror, with its social commentary, is a gripping choice for your movie night. Get out, Us, Nope, and the Blackening have sparked this sub-genre of horror from a black perspective. Deeply rooted in African American culture, these movies provide commentary on the state of culture and race in society today.
8. Dawn of the Dead (2004):
Brace yourselves for an action-packed and thrilling zombie apocalypse in this remake of the classic George A. Romero film. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a million times, there’s nothing scarier than fast moving zombies!
So, dim the lights, grab your popcorn, and prepare for a night filled with screams and suspense. ‘Boo with your Boo’ isn’t just about watching scary movies; it’s about creating unforgettable moments together. Enjoy your cinematic journey into the world of horror with the one you love. Happy haunting!”
