Y’all. I can’t even with this tiny playhouse makeover! It is something I have been dreaming up for a while now, and finally pulled the trigger on once we moved to Monterey, and had to rethink a new outdoor space. All of us were a part of this makeover process. If you head to my playhouse highlight on Instagram, you can see some behind the scenes of our progress, to include Raegan helping daddy put in screws. 641 is an ode to the kids’ age this year. Raegan just turned 6, Xander 1, and Zarie turns 4 next month. I hope it’ll always be a cool marker of this year, and of them having this fun playhouse in a new duty station.
I have all of the details and links for you all below. If there is something I missed, or if you have a question, feel free to leave us a message. We are happy to help!
Before:
The playhouse itself is a Kidkraft Toys playhouse that we scored at Costco for under $400. You can snag it HERE.
All of the wooden pieces, windows, and door came in a box along with the screws/bolts and instructions. It took Mark one full day to assemble. You can see Xander happily inspecting Daddy’s handiwork above.
I decided to go with this particular playhouse for a number of reasons. First is I haven’t seen it done anywhere else. I kinda started to see the same ole playhouse makeovers on repeat, and wanted to do something fresh. The price was also a lot more affordable that some of the other models I’d seen. We’ve gotten quite a few KidKraft items over the years, and the quality is great. We also purchased this playhouse because of the size. I really wanted something that would be tall enough for our 6-year-old to comfortably play in, and also allow all three kiddos to play together without being too cramped. This playhouse fit the bill for us. The cute little grill patio and big open windows, and fun flower boxes were the icing on the cake.
Paint:
We decided to paint the entire house bright white, with black windows, a black roof (which I was happily surprised was already soft black when we opened the box), and a pretty bright shade for the door and flower boxes. Thankfully, we invested in an awesome paint sprayer for the majority of the painting. It cut the time down for us, and allowed for an even paint job. I hand painted the windows and if I could go back, would have just purchased a few cans of spray paint. All of those corners were tedious! We did two coats of paint on everything. Make sure you get exterior specific paint!

We chose to take the girls to go and pick out real flowers to plant in their flower boxes. They are 100% in charge of watering and caring for them! I love the mix of red and purple!
