Spooky Sparkle Haunted Houses

Y’all, this is literally the EASIEST Halloween craft there ever was. It’s messy–but simple and fun haha! Raegan and Zarie really loved these, and are excited to use them to decorate their bedroom this season. It was really fun for me to see them get creative with these. The best part is they’re versatile, really you only need the houses themselves and paint. Search around your craft closet or homeschool space for decorating supplies!

Sidenote: I bought an extra set of them, and I am thinking we will do a fun Gingerbread House twist when Christmastime comes. Who is with me?

What You’ll Need:

  • Paper Mache Houses | HERE
  • Glue | HERE
  • Cottonballs or Faux Spider Webs | HERE
  • Googley Eyes | HERE
  • Black Paint | HERE
  • Paintbrushes | HERE
  • Glitter – We like to use the shakers. (We got them in Emerald, Amethyst and Topaz)| HERE
  • Sparkly Spiders | HERE

OPTIONAL: Because this is acrylic (not washable) paint, and because there is fine glitter involved, it would be a good idea for small children to wear smocks and/or to place an inexpensive tablecloth (think Dollar Tree) on your workspace. The smocks Raegan and Zarie have are amazing and so cute. You can snag them HERE for only 12 bucks!

What You’ll Do:

  1. Cover your workspace, set out the houses and paint supplies and let your kiddos go to town painting the haunted house black. It’s impossible to mess this up, since it’s supposed to look like a run down scary building anyway haha. I let the girls added in a few swirls of white paint to give an even creepier look to the houses.
  2. While the paint is still wet, let the children use the glitter shakers to add that fun “witch’s brew” shimmer to the mix. I LOVE how the Halloween orange, green, and purple turned out.
  3. Let dry.
  4. Wiggle Eyes were added next, using clear glue (or you could use hot glue for a better hold), to resemble monster eyes embedded in the walls of the house.
  5. Finally, the girls added on glitter spiders, and used a stretched cotton ball to create the look of cobwebs.

OPTIONAL: You can also use a flameless LED tea lights to create an even more magically spooky look for decorating your Halloween home.

So easy. So fun. There are SO many possibilities with this, and I can’t wait to see all of your little’s making their own spooky haunted houses! If you have any questions, be sure to leave them here. Tag me on Instagram or Facebook so I can share your creations! Have fun making Halloween memories!
