First Day of School Pancakes

Traditions are big in this house. Big Big. I am so excited to share what I hope will be a forever back-to-school tradition in our home–First Day of School Pancakes! This started last year when Raegan went to PRE-K! I decided it would be fun to make her “Pre-K” pancakes, and she loved it so much, I thought it would be fun to continue each year. We call it brain food!

This year, Raegan is heading to Kindergarten, and Zarie to Preschool! I seriously can’t believe it, and even though this year will be much different than school ever was, I want it to be a special time for them. I want to create a sense of excitement and normalcy around new learning. You can check out their Ready For School Baskets to see some of the fun items we snagged in preparation.

This is such a fun breakfast idea, that you can truly make your own. Cook up a batch of “ABCs” or their names. Letter pancakes are fun for birthdays and sweet surprises. I am planning to spell out Love You for our Valentine’s Day breakfast. So, how did I do it? I’ll show you!

2. Getting Started

The Whiskware™ Pancake Art Kit comes with a Whiskware™ Batter Mixer, a Pancake Art Bottle, and two individual Pancake Shapers. Our girls love the fun dinosaur pancake shaper, but for this breakfast, its all about the alphabet.

I love how easy the Batter Mixer makes this process! Because there are measurement markers right on the bottle, and the BlenderBall® wire whisk inside, you can mix everything up within the one bottle.

All of the Pancake Art Kit pieces are also dishwasher safe, so cleanup was a breeze! I am a huge fan of Whiskware products, we recently discovered their portable snack packs, and they’re our new sustainable snacking favorite.

We almost always use pancake mix, so I add that right to the Batter Mixer, and then the water.

After that you shake shake shake until everything is well mixed. Feel free to turn this batter shaking into a Saturday morning dance party 😉 From this point you could just use the Batter Mixer to pour perfectly round pancakes onto your griddle. For this First Day of School breakfast, I poured the mixed batter into the pancake art bottle. The smaller nozzle is the perfect way to fill the cookie cutters.

Next, you’ll want to heat up your griddle. Be sure to coat both the griddle and cookie cutters with cooking spray. This will help the pancake letters slide right out when it is time to flip them.

Use your Pancake Art Bottle to fill the cookie cutters with pancake batter. I do about three letters at a time. They cook quickly, so I always want to allow myself time to flip them, without any overcooking. Wait for them to bubble and then slide off the cookie cutter–you may want to use an oven mitt, as the cutters can get hot. Flip the letters to cook the other side. Repeat until you’ve got your word(s) of choice! SO EASY!

I serve up this fun breakfast on “notebook paper” plates. I simply use these Daydream Society plates, and draw my own pink line and binder holes. You can find Raegan and Zarie’s custom alphabet placemats HERE.

I couldn’t pass up Raegan and Zarie’s vintage milk carton glasses. They instantly took me back to grade school, and you can snag them HERE. They are so fun for snack time and picnics.

The best part about these pancakes is you can make them ahead of time and freeze them! I just put them right in Tupperware, and when the First Day of School rolls around, I’ll reheat and serve. Helps save this mama some time, on what is always a pretty hectic morning!

I have loved sharing this fun Back-to-School tradition with you all. I hope it has sparked some fun ideas that you can take to your own kiddo’s belly! Be sure to tag me on Insta if you create some alphabet pancake magic! I can’t wait to see the memories you make.

Whiskware gifted these products to me in exchange for my paid honest review. I make it a point to only collaborate with brands that I truly enjoy and love. All opinions are entirely my own.
