Raegan’s Rainbow and Unicorn 5th Birthday

The big FIVE! A whole hand old! I truly can’t believe my thoughtful, brilliant beauty is five years old. Time is such a thief. Many months ago we had planned to have her a huge rainbow and unicorn birthday bash—complete with all our friends and family. Life has changed so much since then, and we are still very much in the middle of a global pandemic. We have been quarantined since mid-March and are being extra cautious, when it comes to social distancing, with the arrival of baby brother Xander.

I am a firm believer that you can make just about anything special under most circumstances. COVID wasn’t going to stop us from celebrating our girl, and she had a beautiful day! I went ahead with our pastel rainbow and unicorn theme, and Raegan seemed to have really loved it.

Sidenote: I’ve never been a huge fan of this theme–until now. I feel like it gets overly done and tacky really quick. I went for a pastel colorway with iridescent accents, and I think it turned out pretty fun.

We started with sneaking in her room the night before to cover her floor in huge bubblegum ball balloons. These large balloons were a part of a balloon garland set that I got from Amazon HERE. The ombre rainbow 5 balloon only cost 5 bucks HERE and we got it inflated at the local grocery store. It was so fun to start the party in Raegan and Zarie’s new big girl room.

We all sung our sweet girl happy birthday and then headed downstairs for the big surprise breakfast setup! I recycled a huge chunk of the fringe garland that I created for Zarie’s Under the Sea party last year, as a backdrop in the breakfast area. I layered that with a gorgeous iridescent foil star garland from one of my favorite’s, Ellie and Piper Co. You can snag one just like it HERE. That dazzling pastel unicorn mylar balloon, and Raegan’s unicorn horn hair clip are also from Ellie and Piper. The pastel balloon garland was the perfect addition to this sweet little celebratory nook.

The iridescent disposable tablecloth, and the confetti squares, are also recycled from Zarie’s Under the Sea party. They added the sweetest amount of magical shimmer to the breakfast table. I also dressed the table with a fun rainbow felt ball garland from another one of my favorite small shops Pearl and Jane. Her garlands are always the perfect touch to our spaces and occasions.

Each place setting included an iridescent unicorn plate, pastel rainbow napkin and coordinating cup. Each of the girls also had unicorn wands waiting for them–only $8 HERE. I turned up the magic on Raegan’s by adding the sweetest little flag that read “Today is Magical.” The flag is a part of the Unicorn Magic collection from Olive and Eve Co. You can download the entire collection (and so many more adorable printable) HERE. I also used some of the other printable items as table confetti, and to dress up Raegan’s bedroom door.

We were so excited to finally surprise her with her big girl bike. She’s been talking about asking Santa for months and months. She specifically wanted one with a basket and a bell to ring. We scored this gorgeous Schwinn bike for her, and it was so sweet to see the excited look on her face. Daddy bought her tulips and stuck them in her basket–which I thought was the sweetest.

After doing quite a few laps around the house, it was time for her rainbow sprinkle donut breakfast! I absolutely LOVE the fun pastel rainbow donut wall we used for this. It was such a simple way to display one of her favorite breakfast treats. We sat down as a family and cheered our donuts and drinks before her daddy had to get to work. You can snag her donut wall, and the coordinating napkins and cups in my Amazon shop HERE.

The middle of the day consisted of lots of bike riding, way too many more donuts, and so many precious video calls from family and friends. She even had her best friend drive by with a present and to sing Happy Birthday to her (from a safe distance). Her lunch request was a hamburger and slushy from Sonic, and after daddy finished work, she opened her birthday presents. We were basically all swimming through a sea of tissue paper, Barbie accessories and legos before it was all said and done.

Raegan’s cake was 100% homemade, and honestly I think it turned out so well! I sent Mark to the store to buy two boxes of funfetti cake mix, frosting, and rainbow sprinkles–the rest was all him. YES Daddy did that! The cake topper was the perfect crown to a cake baked with so much love. It is from The Daily Yay–another small shop that has made so many of my custom requests come true. The sparkle letters and pastel rainbow are the sweetest.

We had Mod Pizza for dinner at the birthday girl’s request. Then, we were able to do one MASSIVE FaceTime call, with all of her grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles, to sing her Happy Birthday. It was so bittersweet to watch her blow out those candles. I am so excited to watch her continue to grow and learn–but these five years have passed much too quickly.

Thanks for coming to check out my baby girl’s sweet occasion. I believe that I have linked everything above. Feel free to visit my “Events” Instagram Highlight to see a closer look at how everything went down. If you have any planning questions, feel free to comment here!

Zarie’s “Sundae Funday” 3rd birthday is coming up next! Stay tuned!

  1. This is so cute! My 3 year old is having a firetruck themed parties and this actually gave me some ideas even though the themes aren’t similar!

Hoping you can answer a quick question: it seems like you reuse a lot of elements which is awesome! How do you store everything? I feel like I wouldn’t be able to remember what I already had that could be reused.

    1. Hi there! Thanks so much! A firetruck party sounds like so much fun. I actually store everything in my guest room closet. It is a space dedicated solely to creative projects, and I saved the crepe paper garland by hanging it up on the clothes rack. I hope this helps!

  2. Your Under the Sea party was a huge inspiration for my youngest daughter’s 1st “Onder the Sea” birthday, specifically the backdrop. My husband thought I was crazy to save it, but I also plan to repurpose the backdrop for my oldest daughter’s 4th unicorn birthday! Love the addition of the stars!
