Strawberry Patch Muffins

If you’re a mama of little kids in North Carolina, you more likely than not have plans to go to the strawberry patch. It’s totally a Spring tradition of ours, and one of my favorite things to do with the girls. I love it when the warm weather rolls in and all of the fresh produce is ripe, abundant and CHEAP!

New to the area, and never been to the strawberry patch? I’ve got two awesome locations for you, my tips on taking your littles, and a pretty delish strawberry muffin recipe. Trust me, your kids are going to pick a billion strawberries, and you’re gonna want all of the recipes you can get!

Locations:

If you’re local to the Fort Bragg, NC area, I’ve got 2 great strawberry patches for you to check out. Gillis Hill Farm boasts a HUGE patch, and is always a community favorite. The strawberry patch from my photos above are from the Riddle Farms strawberry patch in Hope Mills, NC. Although I haven’t personally been to Gross Farms, I’ve heard amazing things about it, and that would be a more convenient location if you live closer to the north side of post.

Strawberry Patch Quick Tips:

  • Throw on your rain boots, sneakers, or closed toe sandals. It is especially sandy out there, and you’ll thank me later when your toddler isn’t having a meltdown because there sand pouring into her jelly sandal—just me? ::sigh::
  • Reuse your Easter egg hunt buckets for your trip to the strawberry patch. Most farms have buckets you can use, and then bag the strawberries. It can get pretty messy and I’ve found it easier to just bring our own. The pink buckets we use are Easter clearance from Michaels.
  • Go first thing in the morning. Not only will you get first dibs on the ripest berries, you won’t have to fight a huge crowd. Plus, I just love going first thing when the sun isn’t beaming down as much–makes it a more pleasurable experience for all.

I hope you enjoy my yummy strawberry muffin recipe. It is a tried and true favorite in our house. It is a versatile recipe, so feel free to use allergen friendly ingredients, sugar alternatives, and/or non dairy milk/butter.

Shakira
